　　1950年夏天韩国人民被卷入才刚开始的全球冷战，战后两个新进崛起的超级强权苏联与美国正摩拳擦掌准备一决高下。当时朝鲜半岛已经从北纬38度线一分为二，北边是共党支持的北韩，南边则是有美国援助的南韩，两国已经濒临内战。强硬的北韩共党领袖金日成与南韩的右翼独裁大统领李承晚都决心追求统一。难以避免的冲突终于在1950年6月25日爆发，当时二十万名北韩人民军士兵入侵南韩，这次攻击几乎成功，但最终仍被联合国派遣、美国领军的部队击退。接下来的十二个月内敌对双方，一边是南韩与其联合国同盟部队，另一边则是北韩与中国和苏联的支持部队，在朝鲜半岛展开一连串的攻击与反攻击，直到1951年7月10日停火谈判开始才稍有止歇。然而，谈判并未就此终止冲突，战事又拖了两年之久。
　　下集：苦难继续，举世同悲
　　外交折冲尔虞我诈，谈判协议毫无交集，满目疮痍的韩国乡间交战仍然持续。韩国的崎岖地形到处可见壕沟刺网。城镇村庄摧毁殆尽，丘陵河谷都是炸弹坑洞和装甲残骸。停战谈判未果牺牲了数千士兵人民的性命，双方激烈的交战手法更时有耳闻。北韩控诉美国空军轰炸时使用生物武器，使用原子武器的说法甚嚣尘上。在诸多战争赔偿与惩治争议中，最主要的谈判条款就是遣送战俘的敏感问题。双方皆不愿释放战俘面对不确定的未来。最终战俘问题终于解决，1953年7月27日双方达成停火协议。经过三年的战争，韩国早已伤痕累累，导致数百万人断送性命，这个分裂的国家继续回归1950年的分裂状态至今。
